Ask yourself, why are the Walton’s of Walmarts funding the expansion of charter schools in this state. They live in Arkansas.
Often the ballot questions are of ultimate importance to Massachusetts residents. This year, ballot question two is very important. It involves the establishment of 12 new charter schools per year, in any community without the agreement of the community itself or its school committee. It also involves no local oversight, a giant black hole for corruption.
Ward 6 and the Newton Democratic City Committee are sponsoring a discussion about this issue. These are the speakers:
Nancy Zollers, an educational consultant and a former professor at BC
Carlos Rojas Alvarez, who is a organizer for the Student Immigration Movement and was the student representative on the Boston School Committee when he attended Boston Latin School
Jessica Tang, a Boston Teacher who served on the Governor’s Teacher Advisory Boast and the Boston Teachers’ Union Advisory board
We are also planning to have a parent and a student who have first hand experience in charter school education.
Please come and educate yourself on this issue.
