Caucus and Rally Huge Success

Thanks to everyone who ran and congratulations to everyone who was elected as a delegate or alternate at the citywide Democratic Caucus on Saturday, February 11th.  Over 100 delegates and alternates were selected to attend the State Democratic Convention in Springfield on June 2nd.

Elizabeth Warren speaks to Ward 1 Dems during the CaucusWe would also like to thank every one of the over 300 people who attended the Caucus and Campaign Kick-off Rally at Newton South High School.  Both events were enormously successful!  We had a great turnout, with lots of enthusiasm for the candidates and the upcoming elections.  Senatorial candidate Elizabeth Warren and 4th Congressional candidate Joe Kennedy III came to meet and talk with the lively Democratic crowd.   The caucus drew considerable press coverage in the Sunday Globe Metro section and photos of the event are posted on the website and on the NewtonDems Facebook page.

We want to express our appreciation to all the ward chairs for organizing and running their ward caucuses.  This was the first time that the latest redistricting was in effect, so many voters found out for the first time that they are now in a different ward.   We appreciate the assistance we received from Election Commissioner Rick Lipof in resolving these issues.  Newton has a new precinct (Ward 2, Precinct 4) and a new polling place for that precinct, the Newton Public Library.

Many thanks to Mayor Setti Warren for welcoming everyone to the rally and voicing the importance of our efforts for this year’s campaigns in Newton.  Carl Nilsson, who directs the Obama for America effort in Massachusetts was the keynote speaker at the rally.  He explained the plans for a coordinated campaign and answered questions from the audience.

The Newton Democrats can play a pivotal role in this year’s elections for President, Senate and Congress.  Help us build a better future for all of us.

Martina Jackson and Tim Snyder, Co-Chairs of the Newton Democratic City Committee
