Happy New Year to you and yours!
Our first meeting of 2019 will be on Sunday, February 3, at Brooke Lipsitt's home, 54 Kirkstall Road. Because the Super Bowl is being played that evening (Go Patriots!), we're having the meeting at 12 pm We hope to have a full schedule for this year's meetings to all of you soon.
The primary order of business on February 3 will be to set our agenda, as a committee, for 2019. In the odd years there is always a risk of division in our ranks as members become involved in local elections and issues. I believe there is more that unites us than divides us, so we hope you will bring your thoughts on issues and partisan elections (there's generally a special election somewhere!) where we can make a difference. We already are looking to the November elections in Virginia, where a net gain of just one seat in each chamber could give Democrats control of the state Senate, House of Delegates, and Governor's office. That would put Democrats in charge of the all-important post-2020 redistricting. We will be looking to replicate the success of postcard campaigns and phone banks in 2017 and 2018, so we'll surely being targeting key Virginia legislative districts.
Hope to see you soon!
