"The High Price of Crime"

Sheriff Peter Koutoujian to Speak on January 12

Newly-appointed Sheriff Peter Koutoujian with Governor Deval Patrick
On Thursday, January 12, at 7:30pmMiddlesex County Sheriff and former state representative Peter Koutoujian will be the featured speaker at a meeting of the Newton Democratic City Committee to be held at the Scandinavian Living Center,206 Waltham St., Newton. Sheriff Koutoujian will address the price of crime to Newton and all of Middlesex County.  He will provide an overview of his work as sheriff, the programs that help to make our communities safer, and the challenges and accomplishments of his first year in office.

A major role of the Middlesex sheriff’s office is the “care, custody and control” of inmates sentenced to two and a half years of incarceration or less, and of inmates awaiting trial. One hundred per cent of these inmates will be released back into society. With this in mind, the programs of the sheriff’s department focus on increasing the safety of the people of Middlesex County by preparing inmates to re-enter society successfully so that they will not return to the criminal activities for which they were incarcerated. Sheriff Koutoujian will describe some of these programs and respond to audience questions. This event is open to all.

Preceding Sheriff Koutoujian’s talk, there will be an NDCC business meeting from 7:00—7:30pm where members will vote on suggested revisions of the Newton Democratic City Committee by-laws. The NDCC consists of the members of each of the eight Democratic Ward Committees in the city of Newton.
