NDCC Mourns Dr. Nasir A. Khan, husband of State Representative Kay Khan

We have received the very sad news that Dr. Nasir A. Khan, husband of Representative Kay Khan, has passed away. The memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 17, 10:30 am at the First Baptist Church in Newton Centre. Below is a brief biography of Dr. Khan, who was honored recently by the Charles River District Medical Society.

Board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology with additional qualifications in geriatric psychiatry, Khan is the chief executive officer of Bournewood Hospital in Brookline, and is engaged in the private practice of psychiatry in Newton. He is also a member of the staff of Newton-Wellesley Hospital, an assistant clinical professor in psychiatry at Tufts University School of Medicine and assistant professor of psychiatry at Boston University School of Medicine. A native of London, he is a graduate of Kings College and Westminster Medical School of the University of London.

A member of the Massachusetts Medical Society since 1970, Khan currently serves on its Board of Trustees and as a member of its House of Delegates. He has also been a member of the society’s Committee on Legislation and its District Leadership Council as a past president of the Charles River District Medical Society. Additionally, he has served as president of the Indian Medical Association of New England, president of the Massachusetts Association of Private Psychiatric Hospitals on two separate occasions, and president of the Medical Staff at Newton-Wellesley Hospital.

He is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and in 2008 was honored with a “Heroes in the Fight” Award from the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness.

Khan is married to State Rep. Kay Khan, and together they have three married children and seven grandchildren.
